Today’s Indy Study Away agenda begins and ends with the Indianapolis Colts. Regardless of whether or not you are a Colts fan, WKU football fans in general hold this organization and Lucas Oil Stadium close to their heart since they are now the home of Jack Doyle, tight end for the Hilltoppers from 2009-2013.
We will begin the day touring Lucas Oil Stadium. Reminiscent architecturally of both Hinkle and Bankers Life Fieldhouses, the stadium compliments the industrial style of other buildings in downtown Indianapolis. Seating over 62,000 football fans, and around 70,000 fans for large venues such as concerts, Lucas Oil found itself host to the 2012 Super Bowl and this year’s NCAA Men’s Basketball Final Four. After a lunch break, we will all head to the Colts’ practice facility and headquarters.
This evening will be one of fun as the students, faculty and staff join in the racing culture by attending the Hoosier Hundred at the Indiana State Fairgrounds. This event first took place in 1903, and has been a strong part of Hoosier race history ever since. Run on a 1-mile dirt, oval track, known as the “Track of Champions,” the Hoosier Hundred is a great way for any race fan to start off the Indy 500 race weekend.
Don’t forget to stop back here tomorrow evening to catch up on the students reflection and view the pictures we snapped during our tours/fun!
