Panthers and Hornets and Toppers…Oh My!

stadium_facts We are devoting Day Two of the Charlotte Study Away to professional sports! First on the agenda is the Bank of America Stadium, home to the Carolina Panthers.  An open air stadium that seats over 75,000 fans, the facility is also the annual host to the Belk Bowl and ACC Championship game.  Reminiscent of LA’s Memorial Coliseum and Soldier Field, it is often noted for resembling a fortress externally more than a traditional stadium.

proj-img-02-TimeWarnerCableArenaThe final stop of today will be Time Warner Cable Arena, home to the Charlotte Hornets.  If Bank of America Stadium is a fortress, then TWC Arena is a beacon of openness with its terraces, exposed stairways and open walkways.  Images of Charlotte are used throughout the structure and artwork is prominently displayed to illustrate the region and culture.  While the Hornets operate the facility, it is home to more than just NBA games.  The arena also hosts numerous concerts, circuses, professional wrestling and more annually.

Check back later today to see what the students have to say about today’s experiences, and don’t forget to check out the gallery updates!  You can also follow us on Twitter at @wku_krs!
